 Bold and brightly colored flowers are unrivaled in the plant world. Flowers are either mopheads: snowball-like flowers, or lace caps. Select both flower types and a good range of colors! Flower buds are over-wintered on previous year's growth, so be careful not to prune off the buds. Hydrangea is fast and easy to grow. Zone 5, 3-5 feet, gr 1, cut, Full Sun Partial Shade

In all our travels, we’ve noted that this cultivar is one of the most reliable bloomers. This is a strong growing plant with large, violet blue mophead flowers on strong stems.

 ‘Harlequin’ 

An exceptional mophead Hydrangea with pinkish-red and white variegated flowers. Vigorous growth and sturdy stems. Late flowers may be of a single color. Best in milder climates.

 'Hornli'  

A remarkable dwarf that we first saw in the Netherlands. This is the smallest, tightest little guy. Deep orange-red flowers. Only 12 to 24 inches tall. We bought our first plant at an auction for $75 (NO LONGER OFFERED)

‘Kardinal' 

We consider this to be the best plant to come out of the “Teller” breeding program. The large flowers are composed of rich, velvet red to purple sterile florets that encircle and contrast attractive blue fertile flowers. Tolerating sunny conditions, but is at its best in full morning sun & afternoon shade.

'Lemon Wave'  

A wild psychedelic, variable blend of yellow, cream, white and green variegated foliage. Rivals the best of the variegated Hosta on the market. Mauve flowers are rare unless you live in a very mild climate, but who cares. FIRST CHOICE AWARD '99.

'Mme Emile Moulliere'

A prolific blooming, pure white mophead that’s considered superior to 'Sister Therese'. As the flowers age they become dotted with pink. Vigorous and cold resistant. The foliage is tough and glossy taking on russet and crimson autumn colors. (NO LONGER OFFERED)

'Nigra'

Black stems contrast nicely with dusty-rose pink blooms. Free flowering and vigorous. (NO LONGER OFFERED)

Large blue or deep-lavender flower balls smother this prolific bloomer.

 'Parzifal' 

Of all the Hydrangea in our test garden, this plant stands out as something very special. Mallet calls it a plant with a great deal of personality. A solid plant with strong stems, and small clear green,  dentate leaves. The blooms are tight hemispheres of large size. Bloom color varies greatly according to the soil pH, and when grown a pH of 6 it has blooms of varied color ranging from dark pink to deep blue. 

‘Penny Mac’

Touted as a Hydrangea macrophylla that blooms on new wood. We’ve not had this plant long enough to know if it’s true but we’re very excited to fine out if it true. Selected by and named for Penny McHenry, past president of the American Hydrangea Society.

PINK SHIRA^™

Funny name, great plant, Pink Shira is a standout hydrangea noted for its compact growth, strong stems and reliable long-lasting blooms. Flowers emerge green and become infused with red and then transform to shades of rich pink. Acid soils deliver tones of lavender purple. Discovered by cut flower grower Tony Thompson of Kingston Spring, TN after watching it bloom for eight years straight. In that time it bloomed even when other varieties were damaged by frost.

A reliable bloomer that was discovered at a northern Indiana farmhouse. The original plant proved to be exceptionally hardy and has never failed to bloom over a span of 50 years. We have been searching for this plant for years! A remarkable dwarf, ball shaped plant that blooms like crazy. The entire plant is engulfed by tightly packed, frizzy-looking, mauve and pink balls. An improvement on ‘Pia’, does not revert, and holds its blooms above the foliage. Originates from Denmark.

'Variegata'
