Family: Styracaceae (Hale-sia: Named for Stephen Hales, botanical author)

 Halesia carolina   

Carolina Silver-bell is a small tree with subtle beauty. Pure white wedding-bell flowers greet us in May before the leaves emerge. Prefers moist, well drained acid soils.

Heptacodium

Seven-Son Flower 

Family: Caprifoliaceae

(Hepta-codium: hepta Greek for the number seven, codium referring to head)

Heptacodium miconioides   

Recently introduced from China, Heptacodium has become the rage. A large arching shrub, or small tree, with glossy dark green leaves, exfoliating bark, and fragrant creamy-white late summer flowers. Its best attribute is its persistent, showy, reddish-pink sepals that are effective from October to November. A great new shrub! AWARDS: CARY, GMPA

Blue Satin

'Helene'

Very large, single, white flowers are blushed with pink and accented by a deep maroon feathered eye. Best for milder climates.  (NO LONGER SOLD)

LIL’ KIM 

(H. s. ‘Antong Two’ ppaf) Say hello in Korean to the only miniature Rose of Sharon. A unique little shrub with dainty little white flowers punctuated with a showy red eye.  The plant appear to be polyploidy because it has thick, dark green leaves and the flowers last for three days instead of the typical one day before falling. Creates many new landscape and garden uses; great for mixed containers, mixed perennial beds or for around decks or entry gardens. Developed by noted plantsman Dr. Shim of South Korea. The propagation of, and or the sale of plant parts is prohibited without a license. Patent/trademark tag required. Zone 5, 3-4 feet, gr 1.5

'Minerva'

A long blooming single lavender with a pink eye. Best for milder climates.  (NO LONGER SOLD)

'Pink Giant'

A vigorous growing, bushy plant with very large, single deep pink flowers, mid-July to September. Seed heads are not persistent. A cross between ‘Woodbridge’ and ‘Hamabo’ from Minier Nurseries of France.

'Purpureus Variegatus’

One of the most attractive variegated plants you’ll ever come across. The foliage is clean and the creamy white margin is wide and consistent. Grown strictly for its foliage, because its purple flowers never fully open.

'Red Heart'

A large, single, white flowers accented by a deep maroon feathered eye.

 

‘Sanchoyo’
We found this Beauty in Korea a few years back and now we finally have enough to share it with our customers. A standout plant with rich, deep pink flowers reminiscent of an exotic Japanese Peony with its abundance of petioloide stamen. Superb.

(H. paramutabilis x syriacus) A robust hybrid with ruffled orchid lavender flowers with a carmine eye. A heavy bloomer with flowers larger than Rose of Sharon. Bold, dark green foliage. Hybridized by Jim Snyder. Zone 5, 8-10 feet, gr 1, Full Sun

Hypericum

St. John's-Wort 

Family: Hypericaceae

(Hyperi-cum: Greek name of obscure meaning)

'Albury Purple'

(H. androsaemum) Rich velvety purple leaf tips, yellow flowers and attractive dark red fruit contribute to its special appeal. Its low mounding habit makes it perfect for mass plantings.

Zone 6, 18-24 inches, gr 1, Full Sun Partial Shade

'Ames' 

(H. kalmianum) A very hardy, tightly mounded shrub with masses of 1" golden yellow flowers in mid-summer. A very fine plant selected at Iowa State University and introduced by Sjulin Nurseries.

Zone 4, 2-3 feet, gr 1, Full Sun

BLUE VELVET

(H. x Cfflpc-1, ppaf) A new cultivar with attractive blue foliage developed by noted plantsman Paul Cappiello of Yewdell Gardens in Crestwood, KY. Numerous golden-yellow flowers in mid summer add to its attraction. An open pollinated seedling of H. kalmianum. The propagation of, and or the sale of plant parts is prohibited without a license. Patent/trademark tag required.

'Gemo'   

 (H. erectum) A really impressive new shrub from Denmark. This tightly branched shrub is noted for its long bloom time, beginning in July and continuing until September. The flowers are a rich yellow, small but numerous, and the leaves are willow-like. Zone 5, 2-3 feet, gr 1, Full Sun

 ‘Golden Tusan’
(H. androsaemum) Way cool electric yellow foliage, bright yellow flowers and attractive dark red fruit add wow to any garden. Its low mounding habit makes it perfect for mass plantings. Great for brightening up shady areas. Zone 6, 18-24 inches, gr 1, Full sun - Partial shade

'Sunburst'  

(H. frondosum) Charming blue-green foliage is overlaid in summer with an abundance of large, bright yellow flowers. AWARDS: PSC

'Tricolor'   

(H. x moserianum) A very brightly colored, low arching shrub with cream, pink and green leaves. Bright yellow flowers add even more color in mid-summer.
