Cotinus Smokebush 

Family: Anacardiaceae 

(Cotin-us: Ancient Greek name of double application)  

GOLDEN SPIRITTM

(Cotinus c. ‘Ancot’ pp#13,082) A new yellow leafed smokebush from the Netherlands. The golden yellow leaves transform to a shades of coral, orange and red in autumn. The leaves do not scorch in direct sunlight. Discovered by Harn Sanders and Christina Bastiana Adriana of Boskoop. The propagation of, and or the sale of plant parts is prohibited without a license. Patent/trademark tag required.

Zone 5, 8-10 feet, gr 1,  Full sun - partial shade

‘Grace’

(Cotinus x dummeri) A real gem that resulted as a cross between our native species C. obovatus and C. ‘Velvet Cloak’. Attractive new leaves emerge an intense wine-red and mature to dusky-reddish-blue. Its bright orange-red fall color is unmatched in the plant world. Masses of extremely large, deep pink panicles cover this beauty in early summer. Use as a large shrub or train into a small tree. Hybridized by Peter Dummer, former propagator at Hillier Nurseries in Winchester, U.K. NATIVE: North America. AWARDS: AGM. Zone 4, 10-15 feet, gr 1 full sun - partial shade

‘Young Lady’
Blooming Crazy! This precocious beauty lives to bloom. Even as a one gallon, every terminal results in a bloom. The result is a poodle in a pot from June to August! A real show stopping impulse plant. Developed by Hendrik Kolster of Boskoop, Netherlands. Excellent orange red fall color. The
propagation of, and or the sale of plant parts is prohibited without a license. Patent/trademark tag required.

Cotoneaster

Cotoneaster 

Family: Rosaceae

(Cotoneas-ter: Latin meaning quince-like, from the leaves of some species)

adpressus ‘Tom Thumb’ A low cushion forming plant with glossy dark green leaves. Great for a rock garden or at the edge of the garden creeping over a wall or path. Pink flowers and red fruit. Zone 4, 2-6 inches

apiculatus 

Cranberry Cotoneaster is a graceful, low spreading form with glossy leaves, pink flowers and bright red berries.

Zone 4, 3 feet, gr 1, Full Sun  Partial Shade

 'Coral Beauty'

(C. dammeri) The most popular Cotoneaster? A low spreading, rapid grower with glossy leaves and coral berries.

Zone 5, 12-24 inches, gr 1, Full Sun Partial Shade

'Hessei'  

A wonderfully textured plant with a neat and tidy habit. A fine spreading plant with rich burgundy fall color. Good resistance to both spider mites and fire blight! Introduced by the Morton Arboretum. AWARDS: PSC

Zone 4, 18 inches, gr 1.5, Full Sun Partial Shade

horizontalis 

Rockspray Cotoneaster has herring-bone branches that create a graceful, low arching blanket. Glossy green leaves, pinkish-white flowers and abundant red berries add to the appeal. AWARDS: AGM Zone 4, 2-3 feet, gr 1, Full Sun Partial Shade

Cotoneaster lucidus

A hardy, upright Siberian species noted for its pink and white flowers, attractive glossy foliage and superb brilliant red fall color. An excellent choice for a medium sized hedge or as a specimen. Zone 4, 5-10 feet, gr 1 

'Mooncreeper'

(C. dammeri ) Forms a lustrous dark green mat adorned with large white flowers. It's quite popular in the Southeast and continues to grow in popularity elsewhere. Zone 5, 10-18 inches, gr 1, Full Sun Partial Shade  

'Queen of Carpets'

(C. procumbens ) A lush 3-5” mat of dark green leaves. Quite attractive when covered with flowers in spring and crimson berries in summer. We were very impressed when we first saw this plant in Europe. We think you’ll like it too. Available June. Zone 6, 3 to5 inches, gr 1, Full Sun Partial Shade 

'Scarlet Leader'

(C. salicifolius) A beautiful selection noted for heavy crops of scarlet fruit and dark green leaves. A rapid grower with a low mounded, spreading habit. Zone 5, 1-2 feet, gr 1, Full Sun Partial Shade
