Spring Meadow presented with Innovation Award

The American Nursery and Landscape Association (ANLA) and NMPro awarded Spring Meadow Nursery, Inc. with its Innovation Lab Award at it’s annual convention in Cleveland, Ohio. The award is given out to the companies that have developed the most innovative products and services for the nursery and landscape industry. Spring Meadow, a propagation nursery that specializes in new and improved flowering shrubs unveiled ColorChoice® its unique new plant introduction program. The program couples colorful new shrubs with innovative and creative marketing. Creative plant promotions, such as the ColorChoicePlants.com internet site, unique art posters and garden writer plant give-a-ways are funded by a percentage of the royalty earned by each plant. Open access to liners and licensing allows the entire industry the opportunity to participate in new plants.  According to Tim Wood, Spring Meadow’s Product and Marketing Manager, “The overall concept is to bring all the pieces together, so that growers and retailers can sell new plants and make better margins, while the consumer get a superior plant. Retailers require new products to remain completive, but there needs to awareness at all levels.

Spring Meadow showcased 5 of it’s 27 new ColorChoice plants in the innovation lab: Black Beauty Sambucus, Midnight Wine Weigela, White Chiffon Hibiscus, Lavender Chiffon Hibiscus, and Limelight Hydrangea. “We select plants based on performance and ease of growth, but most importantly the plants have to be colorful,” says Wood.

The ColorChoice philosophy has been tested and proven with the hugely successful introduction of Weigela Wine & Roses. Growers and retailers at the recent PANTS (Pennsylvania allied nursery trade show) reported excellent awareness and demand for Wine & Roses and as well as other ColorChoice introductions.
